Scotiabank’s first Zero Carbon building was an exciting project for us to work on.
We involved the entire design/ engineering/ sustainable consulting team with Scotiabank to achieve this goal.
The building design required to achieve CaGBC Zero Carbon including: no use of any gas fired equipment (all electric), switching the HVAC system to electric cold climate heat pumps, lighting controls and low lighting power densities (LPDs) for 15% energy reduction, triple plane curtain wall glazing argon filled with low-e coatings (Effective USI of 1.7 including framing), improved insulated building envelope,
The project includes total barrier free access as well as drive through banking services.
Scotiabank has incorporated ongoing energy-saving measures for their branches with the use of energy-efficient interior lighting, high-efficiency rooftop HVAC units, heat-sensor light switches and bicycle racks.
